Introducing Richard Sturm

If you have seen the Hollywood productions of Superman, Three Men and Baby, or Good Will Hunting, then you have seen one aspect of the work of Richard Sturm. As a scenic artist with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) for more than 20 years, Mr. Sturm is by all definitions, a skilled artist.

But his prominent work in the motion picture industry serves only to support a more private and creative vision – this is the work I am most pleased to introduce.

I met Mr. Sturm in 1988 and paid the first of many visits to hist studio. Unlike most artists who must hold second jobs to earn enough to paint, I found in his work as consistent and creative a development as, say, Hans Hofmanns's did during the 40's and early 50's.

The Anderson Gallery included Mr. Sturm's work in our Inaugural Exhibition in 1991, and presented a solo show in 1992. Since then Mr. Sturm's paintings have begun to enjoy growing success. I had the opportunity to visit his latest show in October, and was pleased to see that the courage and creativity I first encountered ten years ago has not abated in the least.

Richard Sturm, I believe, has well-in-hand the temperment, talent, and direction he needs to producr future works that will influence, inform, and enlighten visual creativity well into the 21st Century.
